“Virtual reality will totally transform the way we interact with the world, and will become a mainstream experience for the consumer,” said HTC chief Peter Chou. “Attending real-time concerts, learning history, watching an incredible movie, reliving memories through photos or shopping experiences will be transformed.”

The Vive will let you walk around virtual spaces, thanks to Valve’s Steam VR tracking technology. The lightweight headset curates gaming and virtual video content together. Content partners include Lionsgate, HBO and Google for now.

The HTC Vive will hit the market sometime before the end of the year, while the developer edition will be up starting this spring.
