Alongside the Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi unveiled the MIUI 7 China ROM in Beijing yesterday. The company’s latest mobile OS is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, offering new features, tweaks and UI changes.

Design first, the MIUI 7 comes with five new official themes, among which pink ‘Goddess’ is tailored for women, however there are plenty of themes to choose from the theme showcase.

Another new feature is the replacement of your ringtone. In MIUI 7, you can set a video to an individual contact so whenever you get a call from that contact the set video will be played instead of the ringtone.

The ROM includes face-detection in Gallary app, which curates photos by identifying people. It can also identify and differentiate pets.

In MIUI 7, Xiaomi offers you Mi Roaming, a unique feature that acts as a virtual SIM when you’re out of the country. You can purchase data plans from Xiaomi through this Virtual SIM, meaning you don’t have to get a new card. The Mi Roaming feature is limited to China for now.

MIUI 7 will be available to Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 2A, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Redmi and Redmi Note users as an OTA update starting today in China.

All of these are for Xiaomi’s MIUI 7 China ROM, we’ll be looking at the international variant of MIUI 7 with more tailored features on August 19 in New Delhi, India.
