TAG Heuer announces the Connected Modular 45 smartwatch for $1,650

TAG Heuer launched its first smartwatch — the TAG Heuer Connected — back in  2015, and today the Swiss watch-maker announced the successor to the same — the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45.

After selling 56,000 units of the Connected, the company looks forward to the Connected Modular 45, as it brings a number of enhancements along with an additional $150 over the 2015 Connected’s $1,500 price tag. As the name suggests, the watch is fully modular with around 500 different customization looks, thanks to 45 additional options that are available on special order (now you know the name!).

Every part of the Connected Modular 45 can be customized, and that includes from straps to buckles to lugs. Moreover, the electric watch module itself can be swapped with the mechanical one that comes included in the package. You can easily swap the modules without any special tools, and that makes it the Swiss-Made modular, luxury smartwatch!

The sturdy titanium-made Connected Modular 45, not unlike the Connected, is build in partnership with Intel, and runs Android Wear 2.0. As with all Android Wear 2.0 devices, the watch comes pre-loaded with Google’s Assistant; however, Intel will inject its own brand of AI, which is unknown yet, but is supposed to stand against the Assistant, offering its own royalties. The Intel Ai will be issued on a later date via OTA update.

On the tech front, the 45-mm Connected Modular 45 does AMOLED with its 1.39-inch display capsulated in 2.5-mm-think scratch-resistant sapphire glass. You can also dive down to 50 meters under water fearlessly.

The processor powering the device is an Intel Atom Z34XX (that’s where Intel comes into play), with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and NFC payment support. The watch boasts a 410mAh battery, offering up to 25 hours of uptime within normal usage. It’ll take one and a half hour to fully charge the device from zero (no quick charging here!). There’s also a dedicated TAG Heuer smartphone app that will allow you to leverage the most out of your Connected Modular 45 (if you plan to buy one).

The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 will cost you $1,650 for the base version. If you plan to get the fancier modules for creative artist inside you, then it will not go more than $10,000 in total (perhaps). The watch will launch in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.
