Xiaomi teases a foldable phone in a minute-long video
This is impressive and practical use of technology.
Xiaomi has teased its foldable phone in a video posted on Weibo. The video comes from Xiaom’s co-founder and president Lin Bin, and it’s nearly one minute-long in action.
Bin shows off the device in a tablet form factor initially, and folds it backwards to gain a compact phone design on hand. Using our own observational skills, we can see the progress Xiaomi has made so far with foldable display and phone, of course. The company’s proprietary Android Skin, MIUI adapts the display flawlessly as the device transforms from a tablet to a phone.
The double foldable phone, as seen in the video, is an engineering model, so we can definitely expect some changes before the handset is consumer ready. Xiaomi doesn’t reveal anything other than what we’re seeing in the video, but Bin does note that Xiaomi has conquered “a series of technical problems.”
While there’s no known date for the launch or announcement of a foldable phone from Xiaomi just yet, we’re likely to hear more about foldable phones from manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei as well. This is just in time for Mobile World Congress 2019 happening next month. Perhaps, Barcelona could give us a consumer-ready phone with a foldable display. We’ll find out next month. Till then, stay tuned!
