Apple has announced that the macOS versions of apps can now be included in a universal purchase. Customers can now enjoy single app and in-app purchases across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS with only one purchase.

The macOS version of your app can now be included in a universal purchase, allowing customers to enjoy your app and in‑app purchases across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS by purchasing only once. Get started by using a single bundle ID for your apps in Xcode and setting up your app record for universal purchase in App Store Connect.

In order to make use of this feature, developers are required to assign a single bundle identifier for apps in Xcode and set-up app record for universal purchase using App Store Connect. The unification process will be handled by the App Store itself. With universal purchase now available for Mac apps, customers will be able to buy one app that works across all of their Apple devices. This indeed is a step to encourage the use of Mac Catalyst, Apple’s platform that allows developers to bring iPad apps to the Mac with ease.
