watchOS 7 arrives for Apple Watch Series 3 and later models
New workout types, sleep tracking, automatic handwashing detection and more.

Apple is launching new health, fitness, automatic handwashing detection and several new features with watchOS 7. The new watch update is now available to Apple Watch Series 3 and later models, after several months of beta testing.
watchOS 7 comes with automatic handwashing detection, which uses machine learning and audio cues to measure if you’ve washed your hands for 20 seconds along with some fun audio to keep the time going. It shows the frequency and duration of you washing your hands.
The Family Setup feature, which Apple announced just this week, allows users to pair up to five Apple Watches from their family members via a single iPhone. Parents can set up their kids’ or older family members’ Watches with ease. It brings functions like Apple Pay, DND modes, and location tracking.

The Watch combines data from heart rate sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope to measure exertion while moving arms and legs. Dance is now added as a body workout and tracks down four popular dance types, namely bollywood, cardio dance, hip hop, and latin.
There are also other new workout modes like core training, functional strength training with cool-downs for loosening up your workout sessions. With your Fitness app, you can track down all your data from your iPhone.
Now, the Apple Maps app can suggest you some alternate paths for your trip like advising you to dismount and walk the bike or take a set of stairs to save time. This time, the update comes with a cycling directions included in the Maps app and navigation prompts with large, easy-to-read complications.
During this year’s September event, Apple also announced Fitness Plus coming along watchOS 7. It is a collection of workouts that you can tune into on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. The Apple Watch will give you a clear picture about the amount of calories you’ve burned, your heart rate and workout time. During the workout, if the virtual trainer says to check for heart rate or begins a countdown timer, then it will automatically appear on the screen. There’s also a feature called Burn Bar which shows your current data and compare it with anyone who previously had done the same workout.

The long-requested sleep tracking feature is finally live. The watchOS 7 update tracks your sleep with the help of on-device machine learning, and stores the data on the Health app on your iPhone. Apple Watch users can choose a bedtime routine and adjust settings for features like Wind Down and Sleep Goal, too.
Streamlined complications are also present in the update. You can create your own custom selection and idealize your watch face. If you see a watch face that matches your choice just click the button prompt below and the face will be downloaded.
To update your Apple Watch, you can open the Watch app on your iPhone, tap the General and then click on Software Update.
